  1. “Institutional Support” expenditures (Admin) as a percentage of total 2009-10 expenditures:
    3.9% Kansas State U.
    4.0% U of Washington
    4.4% Iowa State U.
    4.9% Virginia Tech
    5.2% U of Illinois
    5.3% Colorado St. U.
    6.1% Purdue
    6.4% TAMU
    6.4% NCSU
    6.7% Washington State University

Perhaps we need to benchmark administrative costs relative to our peer institutions. A 1.7% reduction in "institutional support" to 5.0% of operational expenses would yield ~$14 million in annual cost savings.

The University of Washington reduced their "Institutional Support" costs by 10% from 2008 to 2010 (from 4.8 to 4.0% of total expenditures). Is there any reason we couldn’t do the same at WSU?
